Schools
Since 2003, the team at atp nutrition has used sport as a pretext to talk about the impact of nutrition on health and performance. We use our experiences working with Olympians and professional athletes to engage adolescents and to encourage collaboration, discussion and dissemination of information among teachers, coaches and parents.
Schools benefit from our practical approach. We use presentations, practical tools and real experiences with elite athletes to engage students. Evaluations online and follow-up workshops provide teachers and parents with feedback, tools, and continuing education strategies.

School programs are realized in three parts to assure the teaching staff, parents, and nutrition specialists are able to achieve the program objectives :
Program objectives
- Students are able to demonstrate knowledge of nutrition concepts presented in their group conferences.
- Students are able to reflect on their eating habits and make links between energy and performance at school and performance outside of school.
- Teachers, and parents are able to support their students in successfully fulfilling objectives 1 & 2.
PART 1 : Assessment of the student's needs
Assessment with coordinator includes :
- Online needs assessment form filled in by group coordinator
- 1 interview with the group coordinator
- 1 program plan for a 1, 3 or 5 year period
Assessment with students includes :
- A detailed online assessment each student completes that reveals key areas where students will need support throughout the year.
- A report for the school coordinator and parents outlining the strong and weak areas of the group and the plan for a targeted intervention of the group. Click here to view an example assessment for a group of grade 9’s.
PART 2 : The targeted school program by grade includes :
- Parent’s conferences provide parents with information and easy strategies to support their students in the development process.
- Grade appropriate conferences provide information to students in a visually stimulating style. Quizzes and games are often part of the informational conferences to promote learning. Click here to see the list of conferences you can choose from.
- Workshops are often offered in addition to conferences OR in place of conferences to promote learning through experience. Click here to view the workshop options.
- Online follow-ups for parents and students are used to assess the students’ understanding and ability to apply the sports nutrition information learned. These are simple 1-page forms that take 5 minutes to fill in. Click here to see a sample online form.
- Reports are given to the school coordinator following the completion of a series of online form entries. The reports highlight the results of the online forms and some recommendations for how to support the students and parents going forwards. Click here to see a sample report.
PART 3 : End of school year reviews and report
- Parents are sent a program assessment form by email.
- Coordinator and teachers involved are sent a program assessment form by email.
- A meeting is held to review the results of the program assessments, to hand back a program review, and to plan for the following school year.
